INTRODUCTION
The Inception

Industrial development in the Kalyan, Ambernath, Shahad, Dombivli complex has taken place during the last 64 years. MIDC could provide infrastructure facilities like road, water supply and industrial sheds and this acted as an incentive for rapid industrial growth. At present there are approximately 600 members with a capital investment of over Rs. 3000 crores and providing employment more than one lakh workers. 

There arose a necessity of a body of organization of the industries which could help the industries to solve their own problems and KALYAN AMBERNATH MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION came into existence. It was started by the large industrial units but later on with the development of industrial estates a number of small scale units also joined KAMA. At present KAMA represents Large, Medium and small industries. KAMA members contribute nearly 60-70% of the industrial turnover in the area with Rs 1013 crores of Export. The membership of KAMA has increased from 10 (1959) to 600 2022.

KAMA function through its Executive Council, with representation of each area and sector of the industry. Subject committees; focus on issues like Safety, Small Scale, Textiles, Manpower, Taxation, Environment and utilities. The Office Bearers meet every week and the Executive Council meets every month to review the progress of the activities undertaken and to discuss the action plan of the association.

Activities

At the inception, industries faced infrastructure hurdles. KAMA actively pursued to mitigate the difficulties by effectively representing the issues of concern. After the establishment of the industrial estates, KAMA activities increased and it created a proactive forum for members to redress their grievances with the agencies like MSEDCL, MIDC, KDMC, Sales Tax, ESIC, KAMA used to tackle problems of industries on the subjects of power, fuel, raw materials, security, suburban railways, water supply, pollution control, maintenance of roads, taxation etc. KAMA is the spokesperson of industries based in this area to express their views on any matter relevant to industrial growth. 

KAMA has organized number of Seminars, training programs, conferences and meetings with different agencies.

KAMA has published a very Comprehensive Directory from time to time of all industries in the KAMA area, which forms a very valuable tool for potential customers and suppliers of KAMA member industries. 

KAMA regularly publishes a quarterly Bulletin circular on latest notifications and changes in any law affecting the industries including KAMA’s stand on the issue to have uniform and united approach in implementing it.

KAMA, periodically conduct various Awareness Seminars for Employees and Employers in matters related to the Industries.

Environment, Health and Safety:

KAMA has taken a unbiased view to safeguard members interest and also help mitigate the pollution problems. It has facilitated the formation of Common Effluent Treatment Plant in its area. Tree Plantation activity is undertaken every year. Many seminars and workshops are conducted every year for creating awareness of pollution problem and laws relating to pollution. 

It regularly conducts training programs on Industrial Safety and Health, Fire Fighting etc. MARG activity conducted through KAMA is an example of how different industries can come together and create a platform to help each other during an emergency. Around 1200 cargo transport drivers have been trained to handle emergencies and take precautions during cargo transportation.

During the recent incidents which happened in Dombivli MIDC MARG representatives has provided immediate services and were recognized by KDMC for their good work.

Under the Disaster Management plan a team from Thane attended the Mock Drill at Gharda Chemicals along with the MARG representatives which helped in further improving the online disaster management.

Drivers Training Progam :
KAMA with the help of Century Rayon Chemicals Ltd also conducts One Day Drivers Training Program for Drivers carrying hazardous goods is held periodically at Century Chemicals Training hall, Shahad. About more than 5000 nos of drivers have been trained till today.
Sports :

KAMA has also thought for the recreation of the working staff and started conducting Annual Sports which keeps all the members fit and bonded with each other. 

This is the biggest and ever sporting event organized in Kalyan, Ambernath, Dombivli region where more than 650 participants from various industries in KAMA competed in various indoor and outdoor games during the year 2017. This sports event is organized by KAMA as a part of Cultural and welfare activity for the employees of its member industries.

These KAMA sports event are a big success and they are well organized and coordinated by Mr. Babji Choudhary – Chairman of KAMA Sports Committee and his team. These sports events provide a platform for increasing fraternity and interaction amongst members various industries.

Environment :
With regular interaction with the MPCB we have achieved success in getting 3 CNG stations in Dombivli which has reduced the CEPI score to 54. Also Mahanagar Gas is going to start supplying Gas to the industries which will further decrease the Environment Pollution.
